Empty Hearts

Last weekend I had two lovely friends come and visit.  Bringing with them laughter and joy and a great light back into my life. And I was given this beautiful song to reflect upon:

So save all of your light
For those who can't sleep at night
And who can't even sing to their shadows
Oh they ride into town
And they throw the shots down
And they save the last round for the windows

Singing don't let me into this year with an empty heart
With an empty heart
Don't let me into this year with an empty heart

I'm inside with my friends
We build fires and pretend
That the night could just bend on forever
While outside in the frost
Are the wolves and the lost
And we sing to the dogs or whoever

Singing don't let me into this year with an empty heart
With an empty heart
Don't let me into this year with an empty heart

There's a friend that I have
And for her I'll go back
You see all of these empties that I'm holding
They're too much for a man
Empty arms, empty hands
And she'll know me by the sound of my hoping

Singing don't let me into this year with an empty heart
With an empty heart
Don't let me into this year with an empty heart

And I feel as I enter this new year it has become of kind of prayer for me.  Having these wonderful spirits around reminded me of how full my life is.  They reminded me of the importance of embracing this life we have been given.  Of speaking light into the dark places of life.  So I hope to enter the year full.  To be full with the sunlight that fills me daily, and with the love of the people who support me far away. There are so many reasons to not be empty...here are some...

Rita getting to know the pigs (Rachel kept her distance!)

Rita and the chickens

hunting for ramps

RAMPS!

oh glorious sunlight in the eyes

Beauty Everywhere

Reading books under shady trees

my first experience with Kumquats (oh I want to try all of the fruits of the world)

friendship

rest

Today, a lesson in catching raindrops on your tongue.
I have not yet mastered it...my teacher says, Practice!
