Pruning. Finally after a winter of thinking, worrying, wondering about how I would prune, this week I jumped in and began. With a small saw in hand and my trusty pruners I started the process of removing those unwanted limbs, diseased one, crossing ones, those that have gotten a bit too far from the center. In the tree world we want no wanderers. It is a good thing I was not a wayward limb on a tree, my existence would have ended a while ago. I have at this point finished 3 trees, for better or worse. Some have lost more than half their branches, and I should have taken at most 1/3. But I will soon learn why these things are important. Spring will come and the tree will respond to my reigning in of their branches.
This is the Sweet 16, before pruning, a bit hard to see with all those lovely trees behind it...
This is the sweet 16 after being pruned..it looks a bit like an apple tree massacre happened in the orchard...

The new pigs
This week we got out pigs, little piglets about 40 lbs each. At this stage they are rather adorable. One has awfully big ears and another lost it's tale to frostbite. It is good to have pigs with character!

My completely untrained eye thinks your pruning looks good. Nice work.
Good to see those clippers are working so well on the trees!!! Are you sure it was frostbite that separated that tail from the rest of the piglets body or could it have been some over anxious purple-hatted person trying out her new clippers?
I won't be showing you post to Juan! (our disagreements over pruning continue) :)
Kate-
I know i'm no expert.. but i think it looks really good! I think you are doing a lovely job with your pruning! Keep it up :) I Love you
Kate it looks pretty good from what i can tell, although from the picture it's hard to see where the fruiting wood is. from my experience though when a tree hasn't been pruned for even a year or two it's really hard to take too much off, unless you take absolutely everything, which it doesn't look like you did. send me more pictures and i'll give more opinion.
